Solar Power Plant Automation
Solar facilities may use automation for balance-of-plant and auxiliary functions such as tracker positioning interfaces, cleaning systems, auxiliary pumps, weather measurements and inverter/transformer auxiliary status. PLC/SCADA scope should complement, not replace, the inverter's internal controls, grid protection or certified plant-level power-control functions. Automation scope depends on the equipment, operating sequence, existing controls and process requirements. Share the machine details and desired outcome to define a suitable control approach.
Application overview
Solar facilities may use automation for balance-of-plant and auxiliary functions such as tracker positioning interfaces, cleaning systems, auxiliary pumps, weather measurements and inverter/transformer auxiliary status. PLC/SCADA scope should complement, not replace, the inverter's internal controls, grid protection or certified plant-level power-control functions.
Typical requirements to define
- Plant layout, equipment schedule and boundary between auxiliary PLC, inverter and plant controller
- Tracker type and vendor interface where tracking is used, including position and fault status
- Weather-station instruments and required signals such as irradiance, wind or ambient temperature
- Auxiliary pump, cleaning-system, motor, valve and power-supply details
- SCADA tags, alarms, time synchronization, communication gateways and operating responsibilities
Example process sequence
- Check auxiliary controller health, mode, available communication and equipment permissives.
- Collect weather and equipment-status signals and validate their quality where diagnostics are available.
- Issue only approved commands to tracker or cleaning-system interfaces and confirm position/run feedback.
- Coordinate auxiliary pumps or other balance-of-plant equipment according to the defined sequence.
- Present alarms, status and selected trends to supervisory operators; leave inverter and grid-control responses to designated systems.
